Prepare for storm season

- LEIGHTON SMITH

QUEENSLANDERS are being urged to prepare their properties for the upcoming storm season to offset the impacts of the pandemic.

RACQ spokeswoman Kirsty Clinton warned that the availability of building materials and car parts was being impacted by temporary factory shutdowns and border closures.

“If a major event was to hit, these shortages could delay the rebuilding of homes and repairs of cars,” Ms Clinton said. “Current border closures could also impact claims being progressed and damage being repaired … with skilled labourers unavailable to travel for work or not interested due to uncertainty created by lockdowns.”

RACQ’S latest research revealed that Queenslanders were not taking simple precautions to protect their properties ahead of storm season.

“Make sure your home is properly prepared for bad weather, to reduce your risk of needing to make a claim,” she said. “The Bureau of Meteorology is tipping higher than average rainfall for spring so now’s the time to prepare your home to reduce the risk of damage.”
