SaltiesS to be stars of show

- MARK MURRAY

TWO famous crocodiles more familiar with “hanging out with the Irwins” travelled halfway across the country to launch the new Croc Arena in Port Douglas.

Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas general manager Clare Anderson described star salties Digger and Big Al as “divas” ahead of the very first “swim with the crocs” experience at the park. But it won’t last long.

“They are being divas at the moment, they are still settling in and enjoying this beautiful tropical environment.

“But once they settle in, they will be raring to go.”

The two 4.5m reptiles were transported from Steve Irwin’s famous Australia Zoo to Port Douglas on a 1700km truck ride and were still getting acquainted with their new home.

But make no mistake, their presence was felt.

“They are really impressive crocodiles,” she said. “They’ve been hanging out with the Irwins. The journey from Australia Zoo was no mean feat, it took a lot of organisation.”

The 400-strong arena will host daily crocodile feeding shows and tutorials before offering tourists a chance to swim with them.
