$14.4K RAISED FOR OASIS

- LEIGHTON SMITH

THE snags were sizzling and the community spirit was overflowing when one of Townsville’s oldest businesses extended a hand of friendship to one of the city’s newest charities and raised almost $14,500.

To celebrate their 120th birthday Lamberts Fresh Produce recently embarked on a weeklong fundraising drive where they held barbecues, donated $1 from every pineapple sold, held meat trays, competitions, and collected donations.

The worthy beneficiaries were the The Oasis Townsville, a local charity which finds the best services in Townsville to support veterans integrating into the community.

The organisation officially opened their fit-for-purpose Townsville hub in June.

Lamberts Fresh Produce owners Michael and Christine Burge last week handed over a cheque for $14,425 to the Oasis Townsville.

“With the veteran community making up 20 per cent of Townsville and supporting a cause close to our hearts, we wanted to partner with the Oasis in their early stages and help them grow,” Mr Burge said.

The Oasis Townsville chairman John Caligari was extremely grateful for Lamberts’ continuing support.

“These funds will help us make our home base with furnishing and decor to make all veterans and their families and friends feel at home,” Mr Caligari said.
