Significant renovations for Mundingburra’s Holy Trinity Church
THE generosity of benefactors has seen significant renovations made to Holy Trinity Church, Mundingburra.
To enable tradesmen to have complete access to the church for six weeks, parish masses were held in the covered area at the school.
Aileen Williams who was in attendance at the laying of the foundation stone of the church in 1965 said of the renovations: “The church interior looks refreshed after the painting. The external walls – where the pigeon congregation has made it’s home for years – has been cleaned and painted and the shade cloth gives relief from the sun for attendees of the 5pm mass. Congratulations to the workmen and a huge thank you to our donors for making all this happen.”
We are reminded of the words of Saint Mary Mackillop, patroness of the parish, who reassures us to “Trust in God’s providence, interfering – as it always does – for our own good.” It is indeed providential that this very generous gift from our benefactors ensures the church will be beautifully restored in time for the celebration of the parish centenary in 2023.
Almost 100 years ago the parish started with a church, school, convent and presbytery in Norris St, Hermit Park. When Annie Cecilia Gordon bequeathed the Ross River Rd home and property of the Gordon family to the Catholic Diocese in the 1930s, the parish centre moved to that location. Parish boundaries have changed. Two churches that were part of the parish in the past and have been removed were St Thomas More’s Church in Pimlico and St Mary’s in Aitkenvale.
A group of parishioners is gathering stories and memorabilia so that the centenary can be fittingly celebrated.
Anecdotes and historical material would be greatly appreciated. Messages can be left for the history group by phoning the parish on 4775 7688 or emailing mundingburracentenary@tsv.catholic.org.au
