BLOOMING GOOD TIME IN SPRING

- EVAN MORGAN

SPRING is in the air and so the Townsville Orchid Society’s Spring Orchid show has sprung.

The society’s show vice president Robyn Dundas said the three-day show opened on Friday at the society hall in Kirwan and up to 50 eager buyers were expected to be already

lined up to come in when doors opened at 9am.

“Friday is our biggest day and it is just enormous,” Mrs Dundas said.

“Due to the cancellation of the winter show I think everyone is just itching to come inside and have a look. We will have people come from Ingham, Bowen, Charters Towers and even Mackay with vendors coming

from Sarina, Ingham and Innisfail.”

She said the prices of the orchids will range from $10 up to $40 or $50.

“Admission is very cheap at $3 and what people can see and buy it is very good value for money.”

There will be a big selection of orchids for sale but punters will have to be blooming quick.

Mrs Dundas said some people just love their orchids. “They are just such a unique and beautiful flower and there are more than 25,000 species all over the world and we have a great variety of those species here in Townsville,” she said.

Doors open on Friday and Saturday from 9am-5pm, and from 9am-2pm on Sunday at the society’s hall at Joe Kirwan Park in Charles St, Kirwan.
