MENTAL HEALTH A COLLEGE PRIORITY

-

A LOCAL school tackling the challenge of mental health headon has been recognised as one of the leading institutions in the state.

Ryan Catholic College has been short-listed for the Queensland Mental Health Week Achievement Awards for its Wellness at Ryan program.

The college is one of only three schools to be short-listed for the award, along with Mountain Creek State School and Tamborine

Mountain State High School.

“This is a great achievement for the college to be nominated as a finalist in Queensland’s only statewide mental health awards,” wellbeing co-ordinator Tracy Blanchard said.

“The awards recognise the great work that individuals, groups and organisations are doing to reduce stigma and support those living with mental illness.”

Wellness at Ryan is the college’s commitment to prioritising proactive wellness initiatives as part of realising the development potential of each student.

The commitment is realised through prioritising a range of wellness initiatives, from large events to daily interactions between staff and students.

The aim of this program is to provide safe spaces for learning, expression, mindfulness and connection. The winner of the state award will be announced on October 15.
