Hall set for major $230k upgrade
THE Burdekin Memorial Hall will undergo a facelift, with a number of key additions set to provide greater access for residents of the Burdekin.
Proposed upgrades to the hall include a front entrance makeover and a new access ramp.
The works will be funded through the second phase of the federal government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
A total of $263,000 has been earmarked for the entrance works and a further $160,000 has been earmarked for associated civil works in Ninth Ave, Home Hill.
Tenders were called and closed on August 16. Three tenders were received and have been assessed by council staff.
The project must be completed by December 30, if it is to be funded under the second phase of the infrastructure program.
RJG Builders will be responsible for facilitating the upgrades.
Burdekin Shire Council Infrastructure, Planning and Environment director Nick Welwood said the hall would benefit from a large upgrade.
“I think it will certainly bring the building into a new millennium and it’s going to be an exciting project,” he said.
Councillor Kaylee Boccalatte said the design upgrades were important in recognising Burdekin was moving toward a more inclusive society.
“With the all-abilities ramp, it does make it more inclusive,” she said.
