Adventure still in the frame with latest Gopro

- JENNIFER DUDLEY-NICHOLSON

IT’S a brand known for capturing high-intensity videos but Gopro’s latest gadget sets out to prove it can record still images of the action, too.

The company’s latest $600 camera, the Gopro Hero10 Black, is just as rugged as you’d expect, with a waterproof body, and features plenty of enhancements to ensure you record crisp, smooth video as you surf, cycle, ski or skateboard off something steep.

But for the first time me it will also capture 23megapixel photographs or let you steal 19.6megapixel photos from video you’ve already recorded.

Combined with extra options such as improved lowlight capabilities, RAW capture, Superphoto+ o+ HDR and a choice of digital al lenses, lenses this action camera can also serve as a highly featured, highly pocketable compact camera for snapping family and friends, as well as extreme outdoor adventures. Other enhancements in the Hero10 H Black improve im both still and video vid capture, and most of them the are enabled by a new processor, pro the GP2.

It not only makes the camera faster to operate but doubles the frame rate of videos captured in 4K and 5.3K, and delivers the company’s nextgeneration image stabilisation, Hypersmooth 4.0, that will let you fasten this camera to a dog’s collar and still get a watchable look at his or her day.

And while its insides have changed, this camera’s exterior remains compatible with Gopro’s Mod accessories.

Mercifully, this will let users add a microphone or light for livestreaming or webcam use when they’re not yet allowed to venture too far outdoors.
