‘Nightmare over’ as Jack cleared to return to the water

- JULIAN LINDEN

AUSTRALIAN swimmer Shayna Jack has triumphantly declared her “nightmare is over” after being formally cleared to return to swimming.

It’s taken over two years but finally the Queenslander – who was banned after testing positive to ligandrol before the 2019 world championships – can start racing again.

She was initially banned for four years but won an appeal to have it reduced to two years, only to have that decision appealed.

The final appeal against her reduction failed.

A formal announcement from the Court of Arbitration for Sport is still to come but the 22-year-old revealed the news – and her relief – on social media.

“After a 2 year and 3 month battle, I have finally received my final decision that my appeal case has been dismissed by the Court of Arbitration,” she wrote. “I am now free to do what I love with no restrictions and am so overwhelmed with joy... The nightmare is finally over.

“Thank you to everyone who has stood by me, supported me and help me overcome this challenge.”
