Call for holiday vaccinations for kids

- CRAIG WARHURST

A TOWNSVILLE paediatrician has urged parents to make the most of the school holidays and get their children vaccinated.

The call comes as the federal government paved the way for children aged 12 and over to get vaccinated for Covid-19 and the Townsville Community Vaccination Centre is encouraging people to walk in.

As of yesterday, just 36 per cent of Townsville people were fully vaccinated and only 51 per cent of people have had their first shot.

Townsville Hospital and Health Service’s Dr Jason Yates said if the community was serious about getting back to normal life, children played an important role. “I’d like to allay parents’ fears when it comes to the vaccine; it is safe, their children will be OK.”
