Smuggler caught out

A WOMAN who tried to smuggle more than 20 litres of alcohol on to Palm Island was brought before Magistrate Peter Smid on Friday.

Police prosecutor Mark Fenlon said Carmel Miller attempted to smuggle four casks of wine and six 700ml bottles of spirits, that were individually wrapped and concealed.

The wine casks held a total of 4 litres each.

Miller’s lawyer said it had been an “attempt” and agreed it was a large quantity of alcohol that was found.

She was fined $500, and a conviction was recorded.
