New chip for best friends
PET owners are being encouraged to book in their beloved furry friends to get microchipped for free.
Townsville City Council is holding a series of free microchipping days starting September 22 to help keep pets safe.
Of more than 32,500 registered dogs in Townsville, just over 10,000 are microchipped.
Councillor Maurie Soars said having a pet microchipped could help reunite them with owners if they go missing.
“It’s great we have been able to continue the program to the benefit of pets and their owners for the rest of this year,” Mr Soars said.
The free microchipping days for registered pets will be held once a month until the end of the year.
Each event will run from 9am until 2pm at Townsville’s Animal Care and Adoption Centre on Tompkins Rd.
