Trajan was emperor from 98 until 117 and is remembered as a successful soldieremp­eror. He presided over the second-largest expansion of the Roman empire.

1876 JAMES SCULLIN Australian Prime Minister

Scullin was Australia’s ninth Prime Minister, leading the Labor Party to victory at the 1929 Federal Election. Crucially, the Wall Street Crash occurred just two days later, heralding the start of the Great Depression in Australia.

In 1999, Garbo was ranked fifth on the American Film Institute’s list of the greatest female stars of classic Hollywood cinema. She came to Hollywood in 1925 after success in Sweden. her role in Camille (1936) is regarded by many as her best performanc­e.

American police officer

Tippett was a member of the Dallas Police Department for 11 years. About 45 minutes after the assassinat­ion of President John F Kennedy, Tippett was shot dead. Lee Harvey Oswald was initially arrested for Tippett’s murder.

1961 JAMES GANDOLFINI American actor

Gandolfini collected three Emmy Awards, three Screen Actors Guild awards and a Golden Globe award for his portrayal of Tony Soprano in the popular series The

Sopranos. His film credits include True Romance, Crimson Tide and Get Shorty.

1971 LANCE ARMSTRONG American cyclist

Armstrong won seven consecutiv­e Tour de France titles from 1999 to 2005. But he was stripped of all seven titles after a doping investigat­ion and an admission of drug use.

1976 RONALDO

Brazilian soccer player Widely regarded as one of

the greatest players of all time, Ronaldo was given the nickname “O Fenomeno” (The Phenomenon). He joined Barcelona in 1996 for what was a world record transfer fee. He broke the record in 1997 when he moved to Inter Milan.
