Residential Trade Contractor of the Year
Havannah Vista is not only “a love story” but is also Roofguard’s most sentimental project yet. The brief was to repaint the whole exterior and to not only change the colours but to also breathe a new identity into the house.
In 1995 Havannah Vista was awarded the Master Builders Queensland House of the Year and the building now enters a new era of enjoyment for owners Frank and Aileen.
This double-storey, six floor level house with a plain living and pitched roof, was designed by Bob Page with the views in mind, the beautiful beach with Havannah Island in the distance.
The timber frame construction with textured masonry block remains as a reminder of the craftsmanship of its time.
To this day, the unique and exquisite leadlight glass details make a dramatic statement to all who enter the door of this home.
Terry Thompson, the builder of the house, said in a 1995 newspaper feature that “We were painstaking in all details but it was a very rewarding home to build”.
Roofguard’s Deni Knuth was so impressed with Frank and Aileen’s honesty, humility and authenticity, that she started a project called “The Transparency Project”, which is in essence a documentary about Roofguard.
“Frank and Aileen embody the ‘why’ we do what we do,” Deni said.
“Because at Roofguard we deal with more than painting, it was a perfect fit for both parties to dream up this project.
“Not without a few hiccups, we managed to deliver a stunning result to a very happy couple, within budget and on time.”
Jeff Knuth, the contractor named on the trophy, attributes this achievement to Deni and her drive and passion for excellent project delivery.
Deni said taking out the Residential Trade Contractor of the Year was a great achievement for their team and a testament to their business.
“Considering that we are ‘just painters’, competing with experienced and established builders is both thrilling and intimidating,” she said. “Teamwork makes the dream work, is a motto I truly stand by.”
