Bur-del Community Multi-function Facility by CD Lewty & Sons Pty Ltd

-

The Bur-del Multi-function Facility in Ayr is a perfect fit for the former medical centre building, constructed in 1977. This important local building has been totally and successfully refurbished and renovated internally by CD Lewty without diminishing the integrity of the original architect’s design and will serve the needs of the community well into the future.

The transformation of the internal spaces provides for Bur-del’s Indigenous housing management division, Day Respite Care Centre services, a commercial kitchen and first-class amenities staffed by a dedicated, skilled management team and work force.

Jim Lewty said it was important to protect as much of the original exterior as possible without compromising the client’s wishes for an open plan administration wing and Day Respite Care Centre.

“Therefore the style and historical appearance of the original building had to shine through in the completely renovated facility,” he said.

“As the project involved extensive renovations to an existing building, the challenges were significantly different to those for a new, greenfield project.”
