Aussie ‘Tower of Terror’ helping champ

- ANDREW JACKSON

BRIT Anthony Joshua is on a path towards becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion and has employed the help of an unbeaten Aussie to do so.

Joshua will defend his WBA, IBF and WBO titles against Oleksandr Usyk next Saturday and has enlisted Australian ‘Tower of Terror’ Demsey Mckean as his sparring partner ahead of the bout.

Speaking to media, Joshua called

Mckean a “phenomenal fighter”, revealing why the Australian had been a “blessing” to work with in the lead-up to his Usyk showdown.

“He is a great sparring partner,” Joshua said.

“He is six foot-something, big guy, southpaw – we don’t really get too many of those. He has great potential.”

That southpaw stance - the same as Usyk - was “one of the main reasons” Joshua sought out Mckean’s help.

“I would say also his boxing IQ,” Joshua added.

“No-one is going to be exactly the same as the guy I am fighting but they will throw certain punches. Anyone who throws punches at me is doing me a favour. Demsey is just throwing punches at me.

“Some of them are hitting me, some of them aren’t hitting me.”

Joshua is coming off a statement knockout win over Kubrat Pulev and has the edge when it comes to height, reach and power.
