Casual job conversion

-

NEW changes to Australia’s employment laws – designed to promote casual workers being offered the chance to become permanent – come into effect from next week.

By September 27, employers (excluding small businesses) need to assess whether any existing casual staff hired before March 27 this year are eligible to be offered to convert to permanent work.

Employers will have 21 days to complete their assessments and write to eligible workers to let them know if an offer will be made. Staff have 21 days to respond in writing. If they don’t respond, employers can assume they’ve declined the offer.
