Mayor tight-lipped on pipeline’s milestone
TOWNSVILLE City Council has reached a milestone in the development process of the Haughton
River Pipeline Stage 2 project.
Councillors voted on two motions about the project at Wednesday’s council meeting, however discussions on the milestone remained behind closed doors in confidential. The council is required to notify the state government when it reaches certain milestones in the project in order for funding to be accessed. Mayor Jenny Hill said work was progressing on the project and remained on track.
“A considerable amount of planning and design work has been undertaken by Council officers and specialist consultants in the past 12 months,” she said.
The council was briefed on the project engineering designs and plans. The Mayor was unable to discuss the project further at this stage due to the funding arrangement with the state government.
