Miners honour best at awards
THE Charters Towers Miners Rugby League Club recently wrapped up the season with their annual presentation night, with a lifelong player taking out the top honours.
It was a packed house to celebrate the award winners and to acknowledge the contributions of sponsors, volunteers, players and a successful year on and off the field.
It was also a chance to acknowledge the club’s Under 19 team who finished TDRL grand final runners-up after an outstanding season.
The major awards went to Dylan Hastie (A Grade Player of Year), Brendan Stone (Reserve Grade Player of Year), Blake Heitmann (U19 Player of Year) and Shirika Toby (Ladies’ Player of Year).
A club spokeswoman said that with the 2021 season now finished the focus will now be on preparing for another successful year in 2022.
“Having filled all of our sponsorship packages for the first time in many years this will be one of our main targets in the off season to have all our dedicated sponsors return,” she said.
“Along with player and coach recruitment and upgrades to the clubs’ facilities these will also be high on the Miners’ agenda.
“The club thanks all parties who supported the Miners in 2021 and we hope to see them all back in 2022 to help the Charters Towers Miners’ bid for another successful year.”
