- SATRIA DYER-DARMAWAN

THE U18 Northern Mendi Rays which featured Burdekin locals Mackenzie Linton and Libby Abbott, managed to win three of their games at the 2021 State Titles - their best ever performance at the competition.

Mackenzie was named

captain of the team heading into the tournament and said she was very honoured to be given the title to represent the club.

“It was a completely different level to the competition that we get in Townsville, the girls are bigger, the girls are stronger, faster, it’s a completely different type of game.

“We did win three games over the whole competition. It’s the most successful an U18s side has ever done in the competition” she said.

Mackenzie said she had a great time playing with Libby as they had great chemistry as a result of playing together in the Burdekin.

“Playing netball in the

Burdekin has taught me a lot of resilience..having to travel to Townsville to play netball, you have to work harder.

“Hard work does pay off...” she said.

Mackenzie said she was thankful to the Rays for giving girls in the North the chance to play at a competitive level.
