WILDCATS DEFEAT TOWNSVILLE AT CHAMPS
THE Burdekin U14 Wildcats participated in the Division two State Championships throughout the week, and defeated Townsville on Thursday morning to avoid finishing last.
Wildcats coach Belinda Tinus said the boys were a bit nervous, but tried really hard throughout the tournament.
“It was a real highlight for the boys, Townsville have beaten us throughout the top of the North Carnival, so this was the first time we have beaten them in this whole season, so it was very good for the boys to win against Townsville on a high,” Tinus said.
“We took the lead pretty early, and Townsville did claw it back so it was pretty even at half time.
“We were down going into the fourth quarter by about 10 points at one point, and then we caught up in the last quarter. We were ahead by probably six in the last three minutes and we were able to hold that lead.
“I think they really did enjoy basketball, they also had a really good time off the court, just being able to hang around together. I think they all en
joyed the experience of seeing what city players can do.
“I think they are all inspired
to train harder and improve their skills,” she said.
Tinus said she was particu
larly thankful for the parents, and the support of the manager and assistant coach.
