HOLIDAY PROGRAM A HOLE IN ONE

- MICHAEL THOMPSON

SCHOOL holiday fun is teeing off in a big way at Townsville Golf Club.

The club is running a school holiday program designed to introduce local kids to the basic skills of golf and also all the fun aspects that make the game so popular around the world.

The clinic runs throughout the school holidays for kids between 5-12 years, and no golf experience is necessary.

“We include a little bit of everything, so that they can be slowly introduced to the game,” Townsville Golf Club professional Scott Mansfield said.

“It’s mainly for kids who haven’t played golf before and we’re trying to bring new young people to the sport. They’re being taught by qualified PGA members and learning some of the basic skills.”

The club held a clinic during the last school holidays, and is building on the success of the program after avoiding much of the hardships imposed by Covid-19 restrictions.

“It’s really for the kids who don’t fit into the rugby codes, soccer and other similar sports. We run from about 3pm to 6pm each day, so we can avoid a lot of the heat. “We’d love to see more new faces down here having a go.”
