Magpies Park gets upgrade
A MAJOR renewal of Magpies Park in Garbutt will begin next month after community consultation and feedback helped shape the future of the open space. The $459,000 project is funded by the federal government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill (pictured) said the enhancement of Magpies Park would revitalise the space for families in the area.
“Council is investing $86m to enhance and maintain parks and open spaces right across the city to improve the recreational opportunities for locals and make the best use of all our city has to offer,” Ms Hill said.
Herbert MP Phillip Thompson said investing in local infrastructure was a priority.
“We’re always looking at ways to not only make Townsville a better place to live and work, but also create jobs, and that’s what the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program is all about,” Mr Thompson said.
The project will begin on October 4.
