Olympic’s freestyle gameplan

- MATTHEW ELKERTON

THEY might have had the week off with no finals football this weekend, but that does not mean MA Olympic have stopped working.

The women’s Premier League outfit kept their season alive last weekend with a dominant 4-1 win over Saints Eagles South.

Despite the success, Olympic skipper Tamsin Brown was adamant they returned to the drawing board this week with a clean slate.

Their ability to restructure their formations depending on the side they will face has been a crucial part of Olympic’s success at the end of the year.

They have become so versatile that coach Michael Brooks has begun turning up to games with at least two different formations and game plans in mind.

“One thing we have been doing this year is changing our formation depending on who we have been playing. Changing up with the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition,” Brown said.

“One thing we have learnt to do is change and adapt to what is in front of us.

“We know during games we try to predict how they will play and what their line-up will be, but you don’t always get that right. So we have been coming up with a couple of game plans to know we can … adapt on the run.”

It took time for Olympic to put the polish on the adaptive style, but they came into their own in the back-end of the season with wins over top two sides Warriors and Brothers.

It was those final round results that have given Brown and her troops confidence they can get the job done.
