Gold Stars captain in league of her own

- MATTHEW ELKERTON

ROMY Teitzel is adamant she does not want to be the face of the BHP Premiership next season.

But her humble response to being named the competition’s inaugural player of the year is the precise reason that she should be front and centre in 2022.

The North Queensland Gold Stars captain was in disbelief when her name was announced for the gong last week.

The award had not even crossed her mind. In fact, she was not even sure why she was one of two Gold Stars invited to the Queensland Rugby League awards night, along with Jasmine Peters.

“We had a look at the run sheet and saw there was a team of the year announced,” she said. “I thought maybe we had possibly made the side, but even then I wasn’t sure.”
