POLLIES NEED TO GET CONCERT HALL SORTED
It’s been a long time coming but at last Townsville will have a dedicated space of international standard for the arts. Today the federal government announced $100m for a state-of-theart concert hall for the region.
The money is the largest portion of the $195m funding left over from the Haughton pipeline debacle and will give Townsville a facility able to host the best artistic talents from around the world.
Townsville has shown what infrastructure investment, via Queensland Country Bank Stadium, can do for the economy of a city.
Over the weekend, Townsville again showed it was sports event capital of Australia hosting the Rugby Championship.
About 25,000 people packed the CBD.
It would not have happened without the stadium.
The same applies for the new concert hall.
If the building is put in the right place and done to an international standard it too will help boost the economy of the region with artistic events.
