BODY FOUND IN MARINA

WHITSUNDAY police are investigating after members of the public discovered the body of a man at Abell Point Marina on Tuesday morning.

Acting Officer-in-charge Sergeant Mark Flynn confirmed police received reports of “someone found in the water” near a boat at the Airlie Beach facility, also known as Coral Sea Marina, about 11.25am. Emergency services pronounced an adult male deceased at the scene.

Sgt Flynn said the cause of death was yet to be determined but it was believed the man had drowned.

“At this stage, there’s no indication it is suspicious,” Sgt Flynn said.

Witnesses said they had seen emergency services including paramedics responding to an incident near Sorrento’s restaurant. Police were on Tuesday in the process of notifying the man’s next of kin.
