Thumper’s new statue
COWBOYS legend Matt Scott has been honoured with a statue lovingly built by members of his hometown community.
Scott unveiled the statue in his hometown Ilfracombe in front of about 200 local residents, and gave a shout out to the organisations and individuals who made it happen, including his grandfather.
The striking 1.9m statue takes pride of place in the town’s main park, and will stand as a testament to ‘Thumper’s’ incredible rugby league career, featuring 268 NRL games for the Cowboys across 16 years and a historic NRL premiership.
“Thanks to the Ilfracombe progress association, Longreach Regional Council and the community for making this happen,” he posted on social media.
“Special thanks to @scrapmetalsheila for this incredible sculpture made entirely with scrap metal, including some of my grandfather’s tools.”
