AFL Masters will be played in Ayr
THE first AFL Masters game in the Burdekin will be between Townsville and Whitsundays at Wickham St, Ayr, at 1pm and it’s still not too late to register your interest.
AFL Masters Townsville president Andy Pethybridge said he had been trying to organise a game in the Burdekin for a while and wanted to generate interest for people who may not have a chance to participate in AFL Masters.
“The AFL Masters is about health and wellbeing initiatives across all genders and we are opening the door to anyone over the age of 33,” Pethybridge said.
“We nearly have two full teams, but we will run a bench if required. If we do have more than needed, we will break it into three teams and drop the numbers down and have a couple of matches.
“We have been doing frequent training for our members and encouraging them to come along and bring new people along, so we train frequently at least once a week.
“We are just looking for some people to reconnect with their old mates and connect with their new mates.
“Mental health and wellbeing is a big concern with what we have been through in the last couple of years. This is a good way to get people talking and be out and about generating those conversations.”
