FOUR LIVES, FIVE YEARS
THE TRAGIC LIFE OF TEEN JAILED FOR KILLING FRIENDS
A YOUNG teenager who was driving a car which spun out of control at a Garbutt intersection killing four of his friends was sentenced in Townsville Childrens Court yesterday to five years jail. He had pleaded guilty to four charges including unlawfully using a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while excessively speeding, burglary and stealing, and possessing a dangerous drug.
Judge Paul Smith handed down the sentence to a courtroom packed with the emotional friends and families of the four deceased children. The court earlier heard of the harrowing circumstances of the teenager’s upbringing.
