Arrest for sex shop incident

A MAN who stormed into a Townsville sex shop brandishin­g a gardening saw has been arrested after a police chase.

At 8.05pm on Thursday, the 32-year-old man walked into Sweetheart­s in Charters Towers Road armed with a hand saw.

Staff and customers hid behind shelves and barriers before the man left a short time later.

A store manager who spoke to the Townsville Bulletin said everyone inside the store was OK.

“He was only in here for a minute, everyone in the store was safe and unharmed,” the manager said.

No items were taken from the shop.

Police were called after the man left and officers swooped on the Hermit Park area.

Officers spotted the man but he ran off and police were forced to chase him.

The Kelso man was arrested a few streets away.

He has been charged with going armed as to cause fear and obstructin­g police.

He will face Townsville Magistrate­s Court.
