It’s time to volunteer

- LEIGHTON SMITH

TRIC Jeffrey and her granddaughter Chloe’s toy shopping tradition at their local Vinnies was the inspiration behind Tric launching her rewarding career as a volunteer.

A West End resident for the past 22 years, Ms Jeffrey, 65, is a retired real estate administrator who has volunteered for the past six years at the Vinnies Echlin St.

“We were regular shoppers at the charity shops and we were always at Echlin St because she loves walking, so this was our favourite port of call.

“We would be there weekly or twice a week and we got to know some of the volunteers there.”

After waving Chloe off to primary school, Ms Jeffrey was at a loose end.

With her “clean house and a perfect garden”, she decided it was time to give back to the community by volunteering with the friends she made at Vinnies.

For four mornings a week, she gets stuck into sorting through and pricing donated items, socialising with customers and co-workers, and fighting the never-ending battle to keep the dust bunnies under control.
