Sporting clubs get cash lift

LOCAL sporting clubs and community organisations will share in more than $500,000 from the latest round of a state government grant.

Townsville MP Scott Stewart said there were 17 successful recipients for the newest Gambling Community Benefit Fund allocations.

“These grants deliver projects and services that really benefit our local community,” Mr Stewart said.

“This valuable funding will be used for projects such as new grandstands for the Estates Soccer Club, resurfacing tennis courts at North’s Tennis Club and purchasing a new motor vehicle for the North Queensland Sports Foundation.”

Thuringowa MP Aaron Harper said the Townsville Dragon Boat Club and the Western Suburbs Tennis Club had received funding.

Mundingburra MP Les Walker said it was fantastic to see clubs in his electorate benefiting.

“I used to be a keen cyclist so it’s great to see my old club, the Townsville Cycling Club, receive a grant to install a solar system and also repair the roof at the club,” Mr Walker said.

The next round for grants will open on October 21.
