Long deal looms for Momirovski

- MATT LOGUE

PREMIERSHIP-WINNING Panther Paul Momirovski is set to be upgraded in one of the great stories of resilience after missing last year’s Storm grand final against Penrith due to a hand injury.

Momirovski has been a revelation for the Panthers since joining the club from Melbourne in February as part of a swap deal that sent promising junior Daine Laurie to the Wests Tigers.

The 25-year-old South Sydney junior played 11 games at the Wests Tigers last season before signing at the Storm as part of a swap deal with Harry Grant.

Momirovski played six games for Melbourne before a hand injury ended his season and any chance of appearing in the 2020 grand final against Penrith.

He then joined the Panthers in another swap deal, paving the way for him to play 19 games on his way to a maiden premiership.

Now he will be rewarded with a long-term deal at the Panthers after chief executive Brian Fletcher confirmed the underrated centre was part of the club’s longterm plans following the departures of outside backs Matt Burton and Brent Naden to Canterbury.

“We’ll sit down with Paul and the retention committee in the new year and discuss his future – I’d say he will be a Panther for a while, that is for sure,” Fletcher said of Momirovski.
