Warm weather deters players

-

THERE was a shortage of numbers at the Gold City Bowls Club on Sunday because of the heat and availability of players.

This meant there were only eight players on the greens, but a good game was played all the same.

On rink one, Shirley Gravenall, Dawn Brown, Harry Bartlett and Clint Macpherson played Denis Donaldson, Bob Wine, Daniel Dunne and Bill Bowen.

Clint’s team raced away to a good start winning the first four ends.

Bill and his helpers were still struggling after the break, which left Clint’s team on top, winning 23-16.

On Tuesday, Wendy Thomasson and Ken Cowan played against Jack Scholes.

The scores were even after 10 ends.

Ken then scored eight shots to gain the winning lead 16-10.

The Goldfield Carnival will be staged this weekend with teams visiting to play from Hughenden, Ingham, Alligator Creek as well as seven teams from Townsville clubs.
