NEW ROLE FOR HIGGINS

-

BRITTANY Higgins has taken up a role to further her work advocating for victims of sexual assault and harassment and for gender equality.

The former political staffer has been appointed the first visiting fellow at the Australian National University’s Global Institute for Women’s Leadership.

The institute is an international group led by former prime minister Julia Gillard that aims to better understand and address the causes of women's underrepresentation in leadership positions.

Ms Gillard applauded Ms Higgins’ appointment, saying the young advocate was “a powerful force for change”.

“Brittany will be a wonderful advocate,” she said.

Ms Higgins in February aired allegations she had been raped in Parliament House by a male colleague while working for then-defence minister Linda Reynolds.
