Queensland seniors to be celebrated at Expo

-

THE inaugural Queensland Seniors Month 2021 will be recognised with an expo and luncheon at the Ayr Showgrounds Hall on Monday, 18 October.

The event will include information stalls, health and wellbeing information, bingo, entertainment, giveaways and a two-course sit down meal.

Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn Mclaughlin said Seniors Week events in the Burdekin had always well attended.

“October each year will now be known as Queensland Seniors Month, an opportunity to not only connect people of all ages, cultures and abilities but to improve community attitudes towards older people and ageing,” Cr Mclaughlin said.

“We have a fantastic population of seniors in the Burdekin who contribute a lot to the community, and I am proud to recognise them this October.

“The Queensland Seniors Month Expo and Luncheon is open for everyone to attend and celebrate our Burdekin seniors. Tickets do have to be pre-booked for catering purposes, however for just $10 guests will receive a two-course lunch and access to a range of health, wellbeing and market stalls.

“Regis will be hosting bingo on the day and a number of other prizes and giveaways will be announced at the event, so I encourage all residents to attend.

“I want to thank the Queensland Government and Council on the Ageing (COTA) Queensland for supporting this and 114 other Seniors Month events across the State.”

The Queensland Seniors Month Expo and Luncheon will be held at the Ayr Showgrounds Hall on Monday, 18 October from 10:30am-1:30pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Burdekin burdekintheatre.com.au. This event is jointly supported by the Queensland Government and COTA Queensland.
