Grid-scale batteries funded by taxpayer

- DEBRA GIBSON, Pinnacles.

REGARDING “Genex picks Tesla battery for new storage project,” (TB, 2/10), there’s just two reasons to build grid-scale batteries: smoothing spiky, intermittent energy from wind and solar, and; making money trading in the energy market that is now volatile because of spiky, intermittent energy from wind and solar.

These $100m 100MWH batteries and the profits they spin are all ultimately paid for by we the consumers.

Even having your own spiky, intermittent solar on your roof doesn’t exempt you from the many ways you pay extra because of renewables in the energy market.

In fact, the price of electricity has doubled relative to your inflation-adjusted dollar from where it was just before renewable mania began 22 years ago.

Our obsession with renewables is utterly pointless for three reasons: carbon dioxide is not the control knob for climate (the sun is); China, India and volcanoes all produce infinitely more CO2 than we could ever reduce, and; our manufacturing industries (and therefore our ability to defend our country) are being destroyed by high power prices.

I read stories pumping up these “clean energy” projects with absolute dismay, for two reasons: manufacturing the parts produces vastly more CO2 than they will ever prevent, and it reveals the incredible levels of technical ignorance and gullibility of huge sections of our population, – especially our political and administrative classes.

Don’t think for a second that corporations that do understand the technology believe in it – they’re saying what they need to get the easy, guaranteed, taxpayerfunded subsidies and/or profits. Follow the money – always follow the money.

CLIMATE STANCE WELCOME

MAYOR Jenny Hill has refused to declare a ‘State of Climate Emergency’ as a professor from Cquniversity said she should declare (TB 4/10).

All I can say Jenny is “well done and thank you for some logic, which is absent among those who can just sit at a key board and claim the world is ending.”

History, real and physical has left us with hundreds of buried cities all over the globe.

Oh, Glenn White you can look that up on Google (10 mysterious underwater cities of the ancient world).

Waves washing against the shore, wearing it away and all that.

Please tell me one of Tim Flannery’s prediction that has happened.

Physical history tells us that in 140 years the sea level in Sydney have not risen. (Fort Dennison built in 1857 Fact Check).

Venice was built in 421AD, it was called the ‘sinking city’. Not because of rising sea levels, but because the buildings are sinking through weight.

Physical history tells us that cities are always hotter than the bush, yet that is used to tell us how terrible the climate change is working its worst.

I have taken the temperature in Townsville, and then come out to my property and it is clearly at least 2 or 3C cooler. I don’t have roads, roofs and hot bitumen.

History, real history from 1000s of years indicates that the weather is driven by planetary cycles.

The people who dribble on about global warming don’t know the difference between naturally occurring storms, droughts and floods. They blame bushfires on climate change, yet realism tells us that rain falls, grass and trees grow, winter comes leaves fall, rain comes more grow and then some moron throws a match or lightning strikes and we have a bushfire that burns all of the fuel that climate alarmists have convinced the weak governments not to burn, so the cycle continues.

Jody Webster of the University of Sydney, Bryan Lougheed of the Institute Pierre Simon Laplace in France and colleagues extracted a variety of ancient coral cores from the Great Barrier Reef.

This skeletal matter and sediments showed that sea-level changes had killed parts of the reef five times during the last 30,000 years. In each case the Reef grew back.

Why have climate alarmists not acknowledged this?

Would the grant money stop if the whole picture was released?

Shouting data from 100 years is just a joke.

Do us all a favour, Glenn and those like you, take a leaf out of the Mayor of Townsville’s book.

What will history have to say about mismanagement of Covid-19 and the people we empowered to get us through. Instead of spending money on the hospital system, they are going to pour billions into a future Games no other countries wanted. The sad thing is they’ll be gone, but Covid will probably still here. Think you better fix hospitals first. It might be you who’s going to need a bed. CRIS WULGURU.

What the hell was that that Aaron ‘Harpon’ had on Tourism Awards? Was it thrown together from a set of old curtains or something! Hilarious! Nearly choked on my morning coffee! N4812 Thomas Sth Tvl: if you look at the election results for the 3 stooges you will see that all were elected from the distribution of preferences from other parties and independents. So for instance if you voted Green you effectively voted for Labor. Until the voting public gets how important it is to understand the system and check who is giving who preference, we will continue to see MP’S elected with less than 40% of first votes and less than 54% after distribution of

preferences. Blaming Labor voters solely for our ineffectual representation is only part of the story. MAGGIE. 4818.

We are in the middle of a health crisis in Qld where four North Qld hospitals went into code yellow at the same time. It was unprecedented and Premier Palaszczuk demanded more funding for health from the feds. In the same week Premier

Palaszczuk handed back $15m to the feds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Townsville! When it comes to Queenslanders’ health needs politics comes first. Petty Palaszczuk strikes again! JR 4810.

Finally someone with some common sense has prevailed and some childcare centres are introducing some risk into the playground!

Hopefully we will stop wrapping kids up in cotton wool and enable them to be competent and capable in judging risk in the playground. Perhaps we will see a turnaround in anxiety in kids! My two year old grandaughter and I have climbed that awesome tree in Queens Gardens, the look on her face was priceless. The parents knew I wouldn’t subject her to anything dangerous, but risky, yes. The result is one awesome photo I will treasure forever. KERRY WEST END.

Lovely to see Mr Harper in yesterday’s Bulletin dressed up like a TV game show host. Perhaps he missed his calling as he has failed badly on the political front. MR FLOPPY 4814

We’ve known for months that Palaszcuk allowed the hospitals to run down again and that’s why she’s keeping Qld isolated from the civilised world. If Beattie hadn’t blown $1.5bn on a known flawed payroll program, they would have had plenty of money. While the polls in the great SE favour isolation, the borders will remain tightly shut and she will tender lie after lie.

JEFF, CONDON.
