LYNDLEY SNAPS SPECIAL MOMENTS

- SAM FLANAGAN

A NORTH Queensland photographer looks back at her early work as “cringe-worthy,” but it’s paved the way for the self-taught snapper to be thrust into a national final.

Lyndley Macaulay, owner of Desire Photography by Lyndley, recently won a hat-trick of Brides’ Choice Awards for being North Queensland’s best wedding photographer from 2019-2021.

Her most recent victory led to her nomination in The Australian Wedding Industry Awards’ national final.

It’s a fair effort for a photographer with humble beginnings.

“I started in high school and was self taught,” Mrs Macaulay said. “I got my degree and began photographing anything and everything.

“I got into weddings 10 years ago and kept going. I look back at my old work and it’s a bit cringe-worthy. I’ve improved a lot.”

Mrs Macaulay, who is from Charters Towers but moved to Townsville in 2014, said her customer service background eased her transition into wedding photography.

“I know how to approach clients. I’ve got the happy and bubbly personality,” she said.

Mrs Macaulay said there were two weddings that stood out.

“This time last year I flew to Toowoomba and shot a wedding at a winery, it was awesome.

“Another wedding I flew out to a station with a bride, it was a top-secret location. We landed in the Burdekin River, it was really cool.”

Mrs Macaulay said she was proud to be recognised as a top photographer in the region.

“I’m also happy just to be in the national final. If I win, it’s icing on the cake,” she said.
