Panthers under investigation for badly damaging the ‘Gladiators’
PENRITH players have badly damaged the NRL trophy after wild premiership celebrations in Queensland.
The NRL has confirmed it is investigating damage to the trophy.
Images show Norm Provan and Arthur Summons separated from the base of the trophy. In social media pictures the “Gladiators” are put in a children’s stroller and also rocked in a shoulder strap.
The captions posted read “googoo gaga” and “dad duties”.
The trophy cost about $30,000 and will need to be repaired by the Panthers. The NRL gives clubs an option of buying a replica to keep but the official premiership one must be returned to headquarters.
An NRL spokesman said the integrity unit had asked the club for an explanation. The Panthers’ social media use has also caused a stir.
