FIRE RIPS THROUGH CANE FARM

A NORTH Queensland farmer has lost 12ha of sugar cane after a harvester caught fire and the resulting blaze ripped through their property.

A spokeswoman for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said they were called to a property on Cazzulino Rd, Trebonne, just before 2.30pm on Saturday.

A fire had broken out near a harvester, which soon spread through the sugar cane paddock beside the vehicle.

Members of the QFES and multiple neighbours arrived to get the fire under control, but it is believed around 12ha of cane was burnt.

The Queensland Ambulance Service and police were on scene but weren’t required.
