SIM HANDS OUT LESSON TO BARRAS

- MATTHEW ELKERTON

AN hour-and-a-half of precise hitting from evergreen Norths opener Gareth Sim has helped right the ship for last year’s minor premiers.

After being handed a five-wicket loss the day before, courtesy of a mammoth 81 from Sub Parks all-rounder Justin Dixon, Norths got themselves back in the Townsville Cricket winner’s circle in a big way.

Set a target of 148 by competition newcomers Northern Beaches, Sim carried his bat through the run chase smashing 13 boundaries on his way to 70 not out.

It was a stark reminder of the veteran opener’s ability with the bat after he had gotten two starts in the early rounds but failed to push on for the Redmen.

Sim wasted little time, powering Norths to a fivewicket win inside 24 overs.

While the Barras remain winless for the season after four rounds, there were good signs in the loss for the newcomers.
