Fearless leader in top form

- MATTHEW ELKERTON

BROTHERS captain Lara Seeger is adamant she does not play for individual accolades, but her Player of the Year award did take a bit of the sting out of the side’s grand final loss.

Seeger has been an inspirational leader this season as Brothers faced an incredible spate of injuries and departures from their top squad.

Brothers lost top-line stars Emily Benton, Xanthe Dumbrell, Darcee Bailey for the back half of the season while both Jess Harris and Theresa Allan were ruled out of the final.

It forced Seeger to step up and lead a motley crew of players who all emerged from the club’s reserves ranks.

Seeger said she was proud of her side in defeat and believed they could use the momentum heading into the Crad Evans Shield.

“I felt like in the second half we won it, we played like winners, but obviously we can’t win a game with 45 minutes,” Seeger said. “I think we’re mostly proud of that secondhalf performance.”
