Iggy Park ready to fire in the finals

- MATTHEW ELKERTON

IGNATIUS Park College will be fuelled by heartache but it will be their skill and precision that will be crucial in the school’s charge at the state challenge finals.

The North Queensland powerhouse will take on Gold Coast’s The Southport School in the Open Boys final of the Streetsmarts Secondary Schools Challenge in Brisbane on Monday.

For Ignatius Park, which played in both the intermediate and open finals in the last iteration of the tournament in 2019, it is a chance to finally get their hands on the trophy.

“We have a number of boys that either played in the intermediate or opens group in those finals,” IPC coach Chris Baily said.

“They are itching for a chance to get back out there and have a really good crack at winning. Set a platform and keep taking every chance we get until there are no more. “We know that we’re up against a really good cricketing side but we have trust and faith in what we’ve prepared with and the style of cricket that we intend to play.”

While it has been several months since Ignatius Park earned the opportunity to play in the final after their regional final win over The Cathedral College, Baily said he was not concerned about a lack of match fitness for his side.
