Townsville boxer out with a point to prove against Horn
“There was one article which said ‘it’s something you see outside a pub at 2am’. Everyone has different styles of boxing, and me and Ben are come forward fighters.
“It’s bound to be an ugly fight, it’s not always the prettiest technique.
“Growing up I was in a lot of riff raff, so when I started boxing I brought in a lot of bad habits from being a bit of a little s--t getting into street fights.
“I’ve taken a long time and a lot of focus to actually start breaking in and having a cleaner style.
“Every time I fight I get heaps better, and I feel like I still have a long way to go.”
O’shea and Horn will clash on November 20 in Brisbane, and the Townsville fighter is determined to make the next month his most intensive training camp yet.
While it will be his first time defending his belt, O’shea said he was no more overawed than what he previously had been.
If anything he is more relaxed, quietly confident Horn will be unable to strip him of his accessory.
“When you lose challenging for the title you take a step back,” O’shea said.
“But now that I have it, win or lose, I’ve won the Queensland title and I’ve been a champ
But it is not just his own fight which has him so eager for the night. Long-time friend Dallas Mclachlan, fresh off claiming the Queensland amateur heavyweight title, will make his professional debut much to O’shea’s delight.
It will be a proud moment for O’shea getting to witness the culmination of all Mclachlan’s efforts, and he has backed the giant contender to make an impression.
“He came through the gym randomly one day. He’s had some background problems, but I used to drop him home all the time and give him a bit of my knowledge to help cater him along,” O’shea said.
“He’s probably the first career I’ve seen start fully with no amateur experience and mould into a professional. “I’ve watched his whole career and I’ll definitely continue to watch him.”
