FOOTY CLUB GIVES BOX OF HOPE TO HOMELESS

- SHAYLA BULLOCH

TRADING footy for charity, a Townsville club has extended a helping hand to a local charity improving the lives of those living on the street.

Brothers Leagues Club has partnered with The Good Box to sponsor 120 boxes each month for the next year in the fight against homelessness. The Good Box creates packages for people who are homeless, which includes vital supplies and hygiene products.

Up to 500 boxes are donated each month to charities around the city.

Brothers Townsville CEO Justin Wilkins said the charity was a worthy cause to support.

“When the opportunity to partner with The Good Box became available, it stood out as an organisation that is dedicated to improving the lives of local people dealing with homelessness,” Mr Wilkins said.

Earlier this week, Townsville Blackhawks players helped pack some of these boxes, and wrote handwritten notes to place inside.

The boxes were then handed out to people at charities across the city, including Family Emergency

Accommodation Townsville (FEAT) on Wednesday.

Co-founder Gali Blacher said the sponsorship would make a huge difference.

“We are so proud to be partnering with such a community focused organisation who will help us ensure that all local Townsville residents experiencing homelessness receive the help they need,” Ms Blacher said.
