Sly thief makes off with undies
A THIEF allegedly made off with two pairs of undies after performing a sly manoeuvre in a dressing room in one of three shoplifting cases reported to police recently.
Investigations are under way into the shoplifting instance at a Charters Towers store which happened at 2.50pm on September 22.
Police said it was alleged a man was observed on CCTV entering the store, grabbing two pairs of underwear and wrapping them in a shirt before entering a change room.
It is alleged the man left the change room and returned the shirt to the shelves before exiting the store.
A short time later store staff noticed two empty underwear packets in the change room.
In a separate incident police are reviewing CCTV footage after a woman was seen leaving a Charters Towers supermarket with several grocery items.
It is alleged the woman stole four pies, Allens lollies and several grocery items between 1pm and 2pm on September 26.
A 25-year-old woman is assisting police with their inquiries.
In a third incident, a belt was allegedly stolen from a local retailer in Gill St.
Police received a report about the theft, which is alleged to have occurred at 12.30pm on October 7.
It is alleged a man took a belt valued at $29.95 from the rack and entered a dressing room. Staff at the store later noticed the packaging for the belt in the room.
CCTV footage has been provided to police in relation to the theft.
DRIVER TAKES OFF
Police are searching for the driver of a red Hyundai that sped away from them at 3.20pm on Tuesday.
It is alleged the driver was spotted travelling at 86km/h in a 60km/h zone on Mount Leyshon Rd.
Police said officers followed the vehicle on to Pyrites Rd but discontinued the pursuit for the safety of others as the driver allegedly sped away. Investigations are continuing.
