Lions are as relevant as ever, says District Governor

-

LIONS Club members from as far north as Papua New Guinea, west to Mount Isa and south to Sarina descended on Charters Towers for the District Conference on the weekend.

A lot of fun was had by members who, as well as taking part in serious conference matters, enjoyed a meet and greet, tour of the town, a gala ball and much more.

District Governor and Townsville Host Lions Club member Gay Rebgetz said Lions were just as relevant today as the organisation had been when it started more than a century ago.

“If Lions were not around there would be a lot of people in a lot of difficulties,” she said.

“Any money raised in the community has to go back to that community.

“We’re very strong in droughts and fires, we’re often in there first to help out.”

More than 150 people from in the district attended the conference in Charters Towers on October 8-10.

The conference was organised by a committee of members from Townsville, Charters Towers and Home Hill.
