1890 DWIGHT D EISENHOWER

American President Eisenhower was an American military officer who served as the 34th president from 1953 until 1961. He made greater use of press conference­s than any president before him, holding more than 200 across his two terms.

1893 LILLIAN GISH American actor

Born in Springfiel­d, Ohio, Gish enjoyed a career that spanned 75 years. She starred in silent movies from 1912. Her final role was alongside Bette Davis in the 1987 film, The Whales of August.

1927 ROGER MOORE English actor

Moore became the third actor to play the fictional secret agent James Bond when he replaced Sean Connery in the role from 1973, and continued to star as Bond until 1985. Moore was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1991, and was knighted in 2003 for services to charity.

1930 MOBUTO SESE SEKO Zaire dictator

Seko was president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 1965–1971, and later Zaire from 1971–1997. He developed a regime that was intensely autocratic and attempted to purge the country of all colonial influence.

Born Ralph Lifshitz in New York City, Lauren became known for the Ralph Lauren

Corporatio­n, which became a global multibilli­on-dollar enterprise. Lauren stepped down as CEO in 2015 but remains chief creative officer.

1940 CLIFF RICHARD English musician

Richard has sold more than 250 million records worldwide. With his backing group, the Shadows, he dominated British popular music in the preBeatles period in the late 1950s. Richard has had 67 British top 10 singles during his career.

Floyd’s death at the hands of police in Minneapoli­s in 2020 sparked protests that quickly spread throughout the US. His final words, “I can’t breathe,” became a catchcry during the protests.
