A NEW BEAT IN THE CIT Y
LUNCHTIME will become a toe-tapping event when Music in the City returns to the CBD on Friday after a two-year hiatus.
Previously held in Perfume Gardens, Music in the City is moving to Flinders Lane and will feature some of Townsville’s best performers.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-maree Greaney said this was a great initiative for the inner city.
“If you’re a worker in the CBD this is a great excuse to get out of the office and enjoy some fresh air and live music,” Cr Greaney said. “I’d also encourage young families and retirees to make the most of these free concerts and enjoy Music in the City as well as everything the CBD has to offer. This is a great way to help activate the city during the week and to get more foot traffic into our local businesses.”
Cr Greaney said Music in the City started in 2013 and ran successfully for a number of years.
“Music in the City has been a muchloved instalment in our CBD and it’ll be great to reinvigorate the concert series this month,” she said.
“We have so much local talent here in Townsville that will help make our city centre even more vibrant and attractive.”
Singer-songwriter Tony Wood is the first performer and said he was looking forward to playing in the CBD.
“As a performer I love getting out and performing for the public and supporting events like this,” Mr Wood said.
“Over in the Perfume Gardens in 2019 there was a really good mix of young families and the business community coming down to support it so hopefully that happens again at the new venue.”
Music in the City kicks off at midday today at Flinders Lane.
